Easy Ways To Have Healthy Eyes

Posted 1 September, 2010 in Diet Programs

A healthy person always has a pair of healthy eyes. Perhaps it is one of the reasons why doctors flash a light to our eyes to check them each time we go for a check up. But at the basic level, or at our level of understanding, we are all aware that when the eyes are in such a perfect condition, it is safe to say that the rest of the body is also in tip top shape. Keeping our eyes is actually a very easy thing to do, like doing eye exercises or eating the right kind of food for starters. That is why some people claim that the key to a better fitness and wellness is through our very own eyes.

Do you know anybody who is completely blind? Have you ever imagined yourself going blind and not seeing the beautiful world around you? We should always be grateful that we have the ability to see and that our eyes are working perfectly, allowing us to do the things that we love to do day in and day out. That is why it is necessary that we should always take good care of our eyes and to never take them for granted.

Here are some good tips that you should follow to help you have healthy eyes.

One of the top vitamins that your body needs to have a good eyesight is vitamin A. In case you have heard of night blindness, that is just among the many eye conditions that you can prevent just by taking a regular supply of vitamin A. The best sources are vegetables like sweet potatoes, carrots and celery. Of course you can always take a supplement to augment your vitamin A deficiency but going natural is still a better choice.

Go green, as natural as you can get. Green vegetables will always be the most healthy food that you can eat. They contain lots of vitamins and minerals that are not only good for your eyes, but for the rest of your body as well. Choose vegetables such as spinach, broccoli and other dark green in color because these contain high levels of antioxidants. Antioxidants are great in getting rid of free radicals which can cause harm to our cells. Your eyes will therefore benefit from such a diet.

You should also be eating tuna, rice, nuts and dairy products because these are rich in selenium and zinc, two minerals that contribute to a healthy eyesight. That is because these minerals are also great in getting rid of the free radicals. Again, taking supplements is also a good option in case you are allergic to nuts or milk.

You should do an eye exercise every 30 minutes to an hour of continuous work, especially if your job requires you to stare at a computer monitor for a prolonged period of time. You can start simply by looking up and down and sideways for a number of times or just looking at a relaxing view to avoid getting eye strain. Doing these exercises and others more often will help relieve not only strain, but also stress.

You should never forget to relax and take a break, more so if you have been working for hours without taking at least a coffee break. You can just shut your eyes for a few minutes and you will instantly feel the kind of relaxation that such a short break can give you. Your eyes will be looking and feeling better afterward.
